Welcome to Oograh Boike's unofficial Thud!®-page.
Latest update: April 1, 2008
Internet Explorer quick navigation: -search -site map. Please consider using Firefox next time, this site and especially its menu has so much more to offer.
Latest news:
1. Here's an excellent April Fool for you: the latest game by Palm and SANEAlex was won by Palm. But the margin was too low, so both their overall scores ended up lower than before. Both took a step down on the ladder to posterity, because they had to make room for a new leader! Congratulations PINKY!!
2. If you're looking for the saves of Multiplayer Games that used to be in this news section, I have something even better for you: A New Multiplayer Games Page!. All updated saves for Multiplayer Games (three at the moment; do we ever need more unless Trevor thinks of a new version?) are in their own page. Enjoy, and please remember to keep me updated if you decide to join and post a move.
3. I'm back, and at full force too! The site has been updated, and a couple of people promised me new saves so there's more to come too. Keep checking regularly. For those of you who would like to know why I was away for so long, have a look at this. It's a panoramic shot of the new kitchen, part of what we redid at home. Nice, eh?
4. I've been working on a HOWTO regarding savegames. If you don't know how, they're hard to find. Click for the HOWTO (plain text), it even has a part about how to find saves on a Mac, thanks to Mc. I hope it will help people to send me more saves.
5. I've started using node numbers in Games names. Node numbers are used in the forum to keep track of individual discussions and games (see their internet address). I hope using them in Games names in here will help you find the games itself in forum.
Welcome!
If you are a Thud player/fan, then this is your place (besides of course thudgame.com). In here you can find a lot of things about the Thud game®. Most prominent feature in here is the list of games played in the forum (most of them downloadable, I might add!), so have a look at that, and while you're at it check out the scores page, where we try to keep track of who's better than most of us.
Of course we did that officially as well, in a Thud Tournament 2006. Check the Tournaments page for info on any other Thud Tournaments, past, present and future.
Once you did that, here's some fun stuff for you, like ThudBoard skins for you to download. You can change ThudBoard to look like a Leather Board, or anything else thanks to the creativity of SANEAlex, Totally Slag, and Ponder, for instance! It's easy, have a try. A step by step How-to is included.
For those of you who joined Thud community fairly recently, there's an archive of games played on an older forum, until nov 2005. There's some good games in there!
And if you're interested in Koom Valley Thud, you can have a look at the KVT page. There's still only a couple of games, but the list is growing.
If that's all a bit too much for just one session, you'd better check out the "games of interest" page. If you're new to Thud, that's where you'll probably learn the most. Download the games, and study them. I'm sure you'll learn a lot!
One thing you should check out though, is the Phazecast podcast interview with Trevor Truran, the man behind Thud and Koom Valley Thud, in the downloads page. Find out how it all came to be, it's a fun and well spent 20 minutes.
...
Huh?? You're a Troll??? D'oh!! Clicked 1 2 many links???
Hhhmm, ok, ok, no problem. No, you're not stupid. You're just slow in summer. And in balmy winter, yes.
Alright, just for you, here's a very short description of Thud: Thud is cool!
No, COOL, as in "fun", or "great", not "cold"!
Gods, aren't they stupid!?
For all other, non-silicon-based, entities (like you, for instance) a slightly less shorter description of Thud would be: Thud is a strategic game for two players, that would rank between Checkers and Chess on a scale of strategy and gameplay, if such a scale would exist. You play Trolls and Dwarfs respectively, since it is based on Terry Pratchett's renowned and highly popular Discworld®-series. If you would like to know more, there's lots of cool stuff on the Thud site! Go and buy yourselves a set, you won't regret it!
Game rules can be found on the site.
There's a short story by PTerry as well, about how Thud came to be.
The best part about Thud is that you can play it anytime with anyone on the Disc, as long as you have an agreed means of communications. That's because the Thud-board has coordinates, and you can mail, email, phone &c. your move to your opponent (eg. d G1 - H2; T J6 - K5). You'll never be in need of a partner to play with, because there are scores of them out there! There's even a forum on the Thud site dedicated to playing virtual games.
Latest addition to the site, since Lee Alley and Dewi Morgan of Morgan Alley took over administration: play Thud online! It's cool, it's fun, it's the best!
